Consumers Save Money, Water with EPA’s WaterSense Program: Showerheads added   {7/7/2010}
In 2009, EPA’s WaterSense program helped consumers save more than 36 billion gallons of water and $267 million on their water and sewer bills. That’s nearly four times as much water as consumers saved with WaterSense labeled toilets, faucets, and faucet accessories in 2008. 

Anyone missing a Porta-Potty?  {7/7/2010}
Motorists in Chaska, Minnesota, had a heck of an obstacle to avoid on a local boulevard recently. A portable toilet blocked one lane of the roadway until the toilet’s owners could come claim it. The real mystery is how and why the toilet ended up in the middle of the road in the first place.

Toilet rebates tanked after program stops being cost-effective  {7/7/2010}
The city of Austin, Texas, ended a program last week that provided rebates to those who purchased low-flow toilets. More availability and lower prices meant more people were buying the toilets anyway, so the rebates got too expensive for the city to continue to offer them.

Workers free osprey trapped in wastewater tank  {7/7/2010}
A pair of wastewater workers and animal lovers rescued a young osprey from a wastewater digester tank in Florida. It’s the second time an osprey has been in need of rescue by city workers.

EPA Proposes Updating Drinking Water Rule to Better Protect Public Health  {7/7/2010}
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to revise a national primary drinking water regulation to achieve greater public health protection against waterborne pathogens in the distribution systems of public water systems. Waterborne pathogens can cause a variety of illnesses with symptoms such as acute abdominal discomfort or in more extreme cases, kidney failure, hepatitis or chronic concerns.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is initiating a rulemaking to better protect the environment and public health from the harmful effects of sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and basement backups.

Police in Ottawa, Canada, arrested a man after he stole flushing mechanisms from toilets all across the city.
